  107.            Compiled the program to be executable also on 8088/86
  108.            machines because this version should be distributed
  109.            on SDS within the next days.

  112. 1991-08-17 Added a new command to the "File" menu: "Check for new
  113. 2.08       program version  Alt-C".  Obviously in the last weeks
  114.            I don't have anything better to do than to produce daily
  115.            new versions of this program.  Using this new command
  116.            helps the poor users of my program to stay up to date :-)

  118.            The program information screen (Alt-I) now contains some
  119.            additional parameters related to the program's overlay
  120.            handling.  Oh, yes: the program information screen
  121.            now too supports a mouse.

  124. 1991-08-17 Removed the "-nolog" commandline parameter.  By default
  125. 2.07       now the program writes no log messages to Frontdoor's
  126.            logfile.  Use the commandline parameter "-log" or "/log"
  127.            to turn on logging.

  129.            Decreased the horizontal mouse sensitivity in the pull-
  130.            down menu.  Horizontal mouse movements now should be
  131.            translated somewhat smoother into menu changes.  By the
  132.            way: I use a Microsoft bus mouse with Mouse.Sys 7.04.
  133.            If you experience a slow moving scroll bar in the pull-
  134.            down menu you are probably using a serial mouse, your
  135.            other<tm> mouse isn't that Microsoft compatible as you
  136.            believed or you are using the MS driver 8.xx which is
  137.            designed for the MS laptop mouse exclusively.
  138.  
  139.            Anyway: try the new commandline parameter "-nomouse"
  140.                    or "/nomouse" if the keyboard response in the
  141.                    pulldown menu doesn't find your pleasure.
  142.  
  143.            Reshuffled most of the overlay code for lower memory
  144.            requirements and higher program performance.  Do an
  145.            Alt-I to compare the values of "Largest contiguous
  146.            block in heap" of this version with the one you
  147.            currently use.  Oh, yes: now as FD 2.01 hits the
  148.            streets if present the site info also is displayed
  149.            in the Alt-I screen.

  152. 1991-08-16 Added a new menu option to the "Miscellaneous" menu:
  153. 2.06       "Switch to hexadecimal base  Ctrl-B".  Depending on
  154.            the setting of this switch numbers are displayed in
  155.            decimal or hexadecimal format.  The status of this
  156.            switch also optionally will be saved to Qbbed.Ini.

  158.            The option "Set global access filters" now should work
  159.            faster.  Due to an idiotic programmer an important
  160.            function was placed in an overlay causing a lot of
  161.            overlay shuffling.  Thanks to Ralf Pradella, 2:249/6,
  162.            for pointing my nose to this weak part of the program.

  164.            The LZH archive file now only contains one executable.
  165.            This version only will run on machines equipped with
  166.            an 80286 or higher processor.  Please send netmail
  167.            in case you require an 8088/86 or 80x87 only version.

  170. 1991-08-15 The conversion routines from *.MSG messages to QuickBBS
  171. 2.05       format didn't work correct if a *.MSG header contained
  172.            a SEAdog date (for example "Thu 15 Aug 91 12:15").
  173.            Now they do work correct.
  174.  
  175.            The command line parameter "-norodent" or "/norodent"
  176.            no longer is valid.  The program's main menu now may
  177.            be used by a mouse if a Microsoft or 100% compatible
  178.            mouse was found by the program <blush>.
  179.  
  180.            Pressing F1 in all string input or editing routines now
  181.            pops up a window showing all commands available while
  182.            editing strings.  If the DOS country code is 49 (see
  183.            your settings in Config.Sys) the keyboard help will be
  184.            in German, otherwise in English.

  186.            The name of the program's optional ASCII configuration
  187.            file no longer is hard coded.  It's the same name as used
  188.            for the executable program with an .INI extension.

  191. 1991-08-14 --------------------- ATTENTION ------------------------
  192. 2.04       I've changed the program to work with internal overlays.
  193.            The advantages were worth the troubles: the available heap
  194.            has increased approximately by 110 kb (do an Alt-I from
  195.            the main menu), the resident portion of the program has
  196.            been reduced to 7.5 kb.  If you're using DOS 5.0 you
  197.            may try "mem /c" from within QBBed or a temporary DOS
  198.            shell to verify this.  Also the amount of conventional
  199.            memory required by the program has been reduced.
  200.  
  201.            If there's enough EMS memory on your machine it will be
  202.            used for the overlays, so there shouldn't be a loss in
  203.            performance.  If there's no EMS the overlays will be
  204.            read as required from Qbbed.Exe.  The program opens this
  205.            file in "read only access/deny none" mode, so multiple
  206.            copies executing at the same time should make no troubles.
  207.            If you do not already please use a disk cache if possible.
  208.  
  209.            Qbbed.Exe may be renamed to whatever name you prefer;
  210.            however Qbbed.Ini (if used) still must keep this name.
  211.  
  212.            Drawbacks: the overlays are included in Qbbed.Exe, so
  213.            you MUST NOT use Pklite or Lzexe to compress this file.
  214.            The compressed Qbbed.Exe won't work.
  215.  
  216.            The archive Qbbed204.Lzh now contains two executables:

  218.            * Q80286.Exe for 80286 and above without Intel coprocessor
  219.            * Q80287.Exe for 80286 and above *with*  Intel coprocessor
  220.  
  221.            Select the file of your choice and rename it to whatever
  222.            you prefer.  A version for 8088/86 without Intel coprocessor
  223.            is available at special request. Please send netmail if you
  224.            need such a version.

  227. 1991-08-14 I'm a lazy programmer: if the messagebase contained
  228. 2.03       less than 23 records (yes, that's exactly the number of
  229.            messages fitting on one main screen) the program didn't
  230.            work well.  Thanks to Joaquim Homrighausen, 2:270/17,
  231.            for drawing my attention to this point.
  232.  
  233.            The lazy solution: after reading Msginfo.Bbs the program
  234.            now aborts if not enough active messages were found.
  235.            I promise to change this some day; let's hope until
  236.            that day you can live with this limit :-)

  238.            Solved the command key conflict which existed if the
  239.            menu option "Alt-keys activate pulldown menu" was selected
  240.            and Alt-E, Alt-F or Alt-T was pressed from the pulldown
  241.            menu.

  243.            On returning to the full, unfiltered messagebase from
  244.            a filtered view the scroll bar remains on the same message
  245.            number as it was before.

  247.            Oh, yes: changed the program's name to Qbbed.Exe!

  250. 1991-08-12 "Search" command: in the search item input dialog box
  251. 2.03       the input field can be moved with Alt-F to the "From:"
  252.            input area, with Alt-O to the "To:" input area, with
  253.            Alt-S to the "Subject:" input area and with Alt-T to
  254.            the "Message text" input area.  If the input field is
  255.            changed by pressing Alt-<letter> instead of just moving
  256.            to another field by pressing [tab] or [shift tab] the
  257.            currently highlighted header's fields will be used as
  258.            default input for the corresponding search item.
  259.  
  260.            New "Miscellaneous" menu option: Switch to standard | fast
  261.            keyboard (Ctrl-K).  Initially the corresponding flag in
  262.            Frontdoor's configuration file (see Setup / Global / Use
  263.            "fastkey") is used by QBBedit.  Pressing Ctrl-K or F10 "M"
  264.            and selecting this option allows to switch from a fast
  265.            to a standard keyboard and vice versa.  This of course
  266.            only is possible and allowed if an extended keyboard is
  267.            used.  If no extended keyboard was deteceted by QBBedit
  268.            selecting this command does nothing but beep the speaker.
  269.  
  270.            "Read *.MSG messages" (Alt-R) or "Write to messagebase
  271.            in another subdirectory" (Alt-W): while checking for
  272.            dupes the new and the header currently being checked
  273.            are displayed in a window.  This is done to sweeten the
  274.            time you spend in front of the screen while the program
  275.            is checking for already existing messages :-)
  276.

  278. 1991-08-11 If the "-p<path>" or "/p<path>" parameter is used to
  279. 2.03       open an alternate messagebase in <path> and <path> is
  280.            empty (no path name is following the "-p" on the command
  281.            line) the current subdirectory will be used to check
  282.            for the Msg*.Bbs files.
  283.  
  284.            Example: "qbbedit -p -nolog -norodent" will cause the
  285.                     program to try to open the Msg*.Bbs files in
  286.                     the current subdirectory.
  287.  
  288.            The header display routines used in the main screen should
  289.            work a little faster now.

  292. 1991-08-11 After writing netmail flames to handle users or to
  293. 2.02       folks posting questionably dated messages optionally
  294.            the echomail message(s) may be deleted.  I've added
  295.            here also a "flame parameter" toggle dialog box to
  296.            avoid multiple, sequential "[Y,n]?" questions.

  298.            Added a new option to the "Tag" menu: tag illegal headers.
  299.            This will tag all message headers containing characters
  300.            outside the range from 0x20 to 0x7E in the "From:", "To:"
  301.            or "Subject:" field.  Optionally netmail flames may be
  302.            generated to the originators of such messages.

  304.            Ctrl-Right and Ctrl-Left now are used to locate the
  305.            next and the previous tagged message respectively.
  306.            Ctrl-T no longer is a supported command.

  308.            PgUp and PgDn now should be somewhat more pleasing
  309.            to the eye.

  311.            Alt-P (print or ASCII file export): 0x00 characters no
  312.            longer should be output to the printer | export file.

  314.            Alt-B: before executing the batch file associated to
  315.            Qbbedit.Ini's "externedit" keyword (Editor.Bat
  316.            per default if it could be found in then DOS path)
  317.            the lastread pointer for the particular folder number
  318.            is set to the currently highlithed header's folder.
  319.            This makes it easy to locate the same message while
  320.            using the external editor.
  321.  
  322.            After returning from the external editor the lastread
  323.            pointer for the currently highlighted header's folder
  324.            is compared to the folder's lastread pointer found in
  325.            the file Lastread.Bbs.  If this two numbers are different
  326.            QBBedit moves to the same message number where the external
  327.            editor was positioned in that particular folder.

  330. 1991-08-08 Added the option to delete the *.MSG message files
  331. 2.01       after they have been imported to the QuickBBS message
  332.            base (Alt-R).  Switched from the sequential "[Y,n]?"
  333.            questions to a toggle dialog box.

  335.            Added a new command line parameter: if "-p<path>" or
  336.            "/p<path>" is present, the subdirectory <path> will
  337.            override the path to the QuickBBS messagebase found
  338.            in Frontdoor's configuration file or in Qbbedit.Ini.
  339.            If no valid QuickBBS messagebase files were found in
  340.            <path>, the primary QuickBBS path will be used again.

  342.            If a netmail message in QuickBBS format is displayed
  343.            in text mode (Alt-T) the origin and the destination
  344.            addresses also are displayed in the message header.

  346.            After switching back to R/W access mode (Ctrl-R)
  347.            the message base is scanned for new messages which
  348.            probably have been added by an other program in an
  349.            other task during QBBedit's R/O phase.

  351.            Fdrescan.Now is created only in Frontdoor environments
  352.            after new netmail messages have been written by the
  353.            program.

  356. 1991-08-06 The user interface has been rewritten completely:
  357. 2.0        the program is controlled by a globally accessible
  358.            SAA style pulldown menu.

  360.            I've added a lot of new features and goodies, among
  361.            them the options to import *.MSG format messages into
  362.            the QuickBBS message base, to export selected messages
  363.            to a secondary QuickBBS message base in a different
  364.            subdirectory and to define a selective, parametrized
  365.            access view.

  367.            With a plain ASCII file called Qbbedit.Ini the program
  368.            no longer depends on the Frontdoor and Tosscan system files
  369.            for configuration.  It may be operated in any environment
  370.            using Fidonet *.MSG format for netmail and Hudson style
  371.            Msg*.Bbs files for echomail.  If used with Frontdoor 1.99c,
  372.            2.0 and 2.0x of course no configuration is necessary.

  375. 1991-07-14 If the program detects an invalid commandline parameter
  376. 1.34       it displays the help screen (same as using "-?", "/?",
  377.            "-help" or "/help" as commandline parameter).

  379.            The layout of the Alt-F9 help screen has been reworked.
  380.            Also, now there are two lines more in the Alt-F9 screen,
  381.            because I changed the appearance of the bottom box.
  382.            The right hand scroll bar has disappeared: without support
  383.            for a mouse it was rather useless.  I plan more changes
  384.            to the interface in the future.

  386.            Pressing Alt-L from the Alt-F9 screen now only executes
  387.            "tsutil link -t -a" if writing access to the messagebase
  388.            is allowed.  I totally overlooked the possibility to
  389.            call Tsutil.Exe although the commandline parameter "-ro"
  390.            was used or the messagebase was already in use by an
  391.            other program.  Thanks to Ralf Pradella, 2:249/6, for
  392.            this hint.

  395. 1991-07-13 Printing/ASCII file export: messages now either can be
  396. 1.34       processed sequentially or in reply-linked sequence.
  397.            If the second option is selected the messages will be
  398.            printed respectively exported according their reply-links
  399.            until the end of a message thread is encountered.  At the
  400.            end of this particular message thread the next message after
  401.            this thread's first message will be processed.

  403.            Joaquim Homrighausen has promised to include this option
  404.            in FM 3.0 :-))

  408.            If the time field of a message header was changed,
  409.            the hour erratically was written back with a leading
  410.            zero if it was <= 10.  This was wrong: instead of a
  411.            leading zero, a blank character is required.

  414. 1991-07-11 Reworked the date and time validation routines used
  415. 1.33       in header edit mode (Alt-E).  The program's main source
  416.            code now has grown to 280294 bytes.  Not included in
  417.            this figure are my standard, keyboard and message
  418.            handling routines.

  421. 1991-07-10 The program now optionally generates netmail flames
  422. 1.33       if the commandline parameter "-date" or "/date" was
  423.            used and dubiously dated messages were found.

  425.            Such flames only will be generated if the message folder
  426.            containing questionably dated messages is *not* set to
  427.            "read only".  The same is true for flames sent to people
  428.            using handles to post their messages.

  430.            The start and end dates defining dubiously dated messages
  431.            now can be altered via a menu.  The program also asks
  432.            if the automatically created flames should be sent directly
  433.            and if a cynical message style should be used.

  435.            Printing/ASCII file export: changed the position of the
  436.            folder name.  It will now be printed flushed right at the
  437.            same line as the message number and the message date.

  439.            If "printing" to an ASCII file is selected, the right
  440.            margin of the FM editor is used instead of the printer
  441.            page layout.

  443.            Looks as if at last I found the bug which sometimes
  444.            caused the program not to write a "handle flame"

  475.            Tommy Roeder, 2:244/8001, suggested it, and it's so much
  476.            fun for me to code :-)

  478.            Enhanced the formatting commands used when writing the
  479.            output file in "Sprint" format.  Undocumented feature:
  480.            if the extension of the output file is .SPR Sprint
  481.            output format is assumed by the program.

  484. 1991-07-01 Included the option to format the ASCII output file
  485. 1.30       for Borland's "Sprint" word processor.  You don't know
  486.            "Sprint"?  Shame on you.  I like it and use it heavily
  487.            because I am a touch typist and not a three-handed
  488.            mouse clicker believing in the lies of WYSIWYG :-)
  489.            Requests for support of WinWord's file format will be
  490.            forwarded to the NUL device.

  492.            Printing/ASCII file output: kludge lines optionally can
  493.            be suppressed via the page layout menu.  Normally ^a info
  494.            suppression is controlled by checking Setup.Fd | Fd.Sys.

  496.            Printing/ASCII file output: if more than one message is
  497.            being printed | written to ASCII file the progress is
  498.            displayed in a bar chart.  The word wrap algorithm has
  499.            been slightly modified to deal with 0x10 characters.

  501.            Search and replace on message subjects with confirmation:
  502.            during the question "Replace it?" a small window showing
  503.            the full message subject pops up.

  506. 1991-06-26 New feature: pressing Alt-P in header overview mode
  507. 1.29       (Alt-F9 screen) prints the current message or all
  508.            tagged messages.  Optionally instead of the printer
  509.            an ASCII file may be specified for output. All printer

  511.            print style switches) will be used.  The page layout
  512.            (page length, page width, left margin, top margin and
